Our first full day in NM was filled with trying new things. Since it had been a long time (years) since I had visited the area, there were a lot of things I wanted to do and see during our recent visit. I was also in my very early twenties on my last visit and am now in my late twenties, so I (and my interests) have changed a lot and I wanted to see and do things that my parents weren't necessarily going to take me to do when I was a kid! Things such as...
Gambling! And horse racing! Haha.
Eddie and I like going to the casino occasionally and throwing a few bucks into a machine. And my mom also loves gambling. Haha. My dad can take it or leave it but is usually patient and doesn't mind going with my mom once in a while. So it pretty much took little to no convincing to get everyone to agree to going to the nearby casino and racetrack. Both Eddie and my mom ended up winning a bit of money at the track which was cool. Because then we could use it at the casino. Ha! The view from the track was gorgeous! Awesome mountains nearby and a whole lot of open spaces which was so nice and so different from the OC/LA area. And after spending the day at the track we ate at an El Paso landmark- Chico's Tacos!
My mom and sisters. One of them purposely being weird. |
Say what?!?! Very cool. |
What the fudge?!?! My mom hit a royal flush! |
We had spent the previous evening talking to my dad and grandma about must-eat-at places in the area, and while my grandma was meh about Chico's, my dad thought it was a place we just had to check out. After googling the place, I found this interesting video on YouTube from the Food Network show The Best Thing I Ever Ate. I was sold. I had to try it!
So while I was not ecstatic about Chico's famous tacos (the sauce was a little too watery for me) I had a hot dog (which I had read was delish) and it was SO GOOD. It was actually two hot dogs cut in half, on a hamburger bun, with mustard, pickles, and chili beans. Kind of funky condiments but OMG it was yummy.
My dad and uncle were drinking the sauce and told Eddie he had to join in for the Chico's experience to be authentic. (Gross.) |
So all in all it was a fun day, and we were looking forward to the next day's plans! Coming soon. . . Part 3!
